Lindos is the most impressive archaeological site of Rhodes. Here
the dramatic natural landscape is enhanced by the picturesque
quality of the more modern town. It lies on the east coast of the
island and is about 50 km south of the town of Rhodes its fine
beaches make it a popular tourist and holiday destination.
Prasonisi: Prasonisi is the Greek word for "green island". During the
summer time, and when water levels are low enough, this island is
a peninsula attached to Rhodes. During the winter time, and when
water levels are high enough, Prasonisi becomes an island.
Monolithos castle: Monilithos castle was built in 1480 by the
Knights of Saint John to protect the island from attacks. In fact, this
castle was never conquered. The Castle of Monolithos is widely
ruined today but it offers great views of the sea and the two island
opposite to it.
Siana: Siana, is a beautiful mountain settlement located 65 km
south of Rhodes town. It was built amphitheatrically on the slopes
of Mount Acramitis, second highest mountain of the island,
offering a breathtaking view to the surrounded areas. The village is
well known for the local products like honey which is served on
top of ice creams or yoghurt combined with fruits and nuts.. One
among the two churches of Siana is Saint Panteleimon, a 19th
century structure dominating the centre of the village.
Embonas village : A gray rocky mountain of 1,215 m height. The
village is the centre of wine industry on Rhodes.Emponas, may not
have any picturesque architectural features ,however, it is one of
the most popular suggestions for a trip inland in Rhodes that
combines folklore ,a lively atmosphere and good food.(make a stop
there for lunch and wine tasting in a local winery).
